John Britt Cone 6 Ceramic Glaze Testing Workshop, Cary, NC


The workshop will be a general overview of ceramic glazes (focusing on cone 6 glazes – but will cover glazes in general. The hands on portion ow this workshop is designed to show students how to test a base recipe and get color blend and strength of colors/progression test. It is designed for beginner to intermediate potters. John will discuss clays, slips, cones, kilns, firing dynamics and principles as well as applying those principles to various firing cycles. He will discuss some basic classifications of glazes, like ash, celadon, temmoku, etc. We will discuss how and why each type of glaze works and how you can achieve them, how to adjust your glazes and how to find new ones. We will discuss glazes from my new book: “The Complete Guide to Mid-Range Glazes: Glazing and Firing at cone 4 – 7”, but will go into more detail than the book allowed.

John Britt is a studio potter in Bakersville, North Carolina who has been a potter and teacher for over 35 years. He lives in mountains of western North Carolina although he grew up in
Dayton, Ohio. John is primarily a self-taught potter who has worked and
taught extensively, both nationally and internationally, at
universities, colleges and craft centers, including the Penland School
of Crafts where he served as the Clay Coordinator and then, as the
Studio’s Manager.

Cancellation Policy:
In the event of cancellation of workshop due to weather or other unavoidable incident, a full refund will be issued.
Individual Cancellations will be honored on or by December 11, 2019. Full refund will be issued if original payment was via cash/check. If original payment was via Credit Card, full refund will be issued minus 10% charge. After December 11, 2019, refunds will not be issued, unless space can be filled from wait list.
