Weekend Workshop

COST: $450.00
Become a glaze explorer!
This 3 day workshop will be a general overview of ceramic glazes, focusing on, but not limited to, cone 6 glazes. Join John Britt, a dynamic teacher and true master in the field as he teachs us about mid range glazes and what to expect during firing. The course is designed for beginner to intermediate potters. We will discuss cones, kilns, firing dynamics and principles as well as applying those principles to various firing cycles. This will lead us into some basic classifications of glazes, like ash, celadon, temmoku. We will discuss how and why each type of glaze works and how you can achieve them, how to adjust your glazes and how to find new ones.
FREE Parking! Catered food provided each day by Star Kitchen Cafe for $10/person.
We recommend buying John’s book: The Complete Guide to Mid-Range Glazes: Glazing and Firing at cone 4 – 7. John will teach from his book throughout the workshop.
Several weeks before the workshop you will receive the
details of what to expect, what to bring, materials list, and
directions to the studio.
We will have the supplies available in a kit that you can purchase from us – including a Kiln Room apron – or you can choose to bring your own supplies from the list you will receive.
What to expect
From John: “This workshop will be a general overview of ceramic glazes, focusing on but not limited to cone 6 glazes. It is designed for beginner to intermediate potters. We will discuss cones, kilns, firing dynamics and principles as well as applying those principles to various firing cycles. This will lead us into some basic classifications of glazes, like ash, celadon, temmoku, etc. We will discuss how and why each type of glaze works and how you can achieve them, how to adjust your glazes and how to find new ones. We will discuss glazes from my new book: “The Complete Guide to Mid-Range Glazes: Glazing and Firing at cone 4 – 7”, but will go into more detail than the book allowed.”
A lot of information will be covered, but the majority of the time is going to be practical application; with you actually mixing glazes and applying them to test tiles (which will be supplied).
The workshop will run all day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Kiln Room will be closed during the workshop so you’ll have the whole place to yourselves. Firings will be handled by Kiln Room staff so can concentrate on mixing your glazes and examining your results.
